Keeping the Promise, Looking to the Future – It’s no secret our pension system in its current form is unsustainable.  The Commonwealth pays out more than it takes in just like social security.  The continuing loss of funds costs taxpayers, over $1.4 billion each year.  By ignoring the root of the problem (i.e. the conflicts and abuse of the decision makers and the system) we risk having to send IOUs to police officers, firefighters and teachers when they retire.  Meaningful, systemic reform of our pension system can only begin by taking state elected officials out of the system. I say “No Pensions for Politicians.”

Ending Our Growing Debt Burden – The state continues to tax, spend and then borrow when it runs out of revenue only to tax again down the road.  As a representative with a ten-year record of voting against higher taxes and wasteful spending, Karyn will hold the line on excessive and irresponsible borrowing.  Taxpayers have been utilized as ATMs every time money gets tight on Beacon Hill.  During these economic times when there’s simply no more cash to grab, the state has looked to taxpayers as “credit cards,” borrowing on their behalf as the Commonwealth heads toward financial ruin.

Good Government – The people have grown disillusioned with Beacon Hill and rightly so.  As an independent-minded state lawmaker, Karyn has been standing with the people, fighting a corrupt culture on Beacon Hill for over a decade.  She’s refused legislative pay raises, challenged her party’s leadership and reached across the aisle to get things done.  As Treasurer, Karyn will create a new culture on Beacon Hill by implementing measures to help restore public trust and confidence in our state government.  Massachusetts needs that type of leadership now more than ever before.
